LIFESAVING AWARD -- Ken C. was notified at the Feb. 7 court of honor that his nomination for a National Award of Merit lifesaving award by the National BSA office had been approved. The award will "formally" be presented to Ken at the Lakeview District dinner on April 22 at the Grapevine Municipal Golf Course meeting room. On Aug. 11, 2004 a mini-van overturned on Glade Road and Ken, who happened on the accident, administered first aid by caring for the driver who had been thrown out of the van and had gone into convulsions. He raised the victim's legs to keep him from going into shock. Ken also directed bystanders to aid the victim. The victim, who was not identified, survived.

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL CAMPOUT THIS WEEKEND -- For those that are participating in the Wilderness Survival Portion of the Campout this weekend at Camp Shuman, Campout coordinator, Explorer Scout Sarah Lippert, reminds scouts that they have to assemble a wilderness survival kit for one of the requirements. She gave a checklist out to everyone at the first meeting of the supplies needed to bring this weekend. It is vital that you bring all the supplies (be prepared). The troop will leave Colleyville Christian Fellowship at 6 p.m. Friday and return approximately noon on Sunday. Directions to Camp Shuman: Take Loop 820 west to the Cahoba/Navajo Trail exit. Take the access road back to Cahoba Drive and turn right on Cahoba and continue around the lake to Malaga Drive and the camp entrance. High temperatures for the campout are predicted in the low 70s and lows in the upper 40s, low 50s.

As a reminder, here are the items that scouts must bring with them.

EAGLE SCOUT COURTS OF HONOR -- Troop 4's newest Eagle Scouts will hold their formal courts of honor the first week of April.  Kevin M. COH will be at 2 p.m. Sunday April 3 in the Colleyville Christian Fellowship main building, while Drew S. will hold his COH on Saturday April 9 from 2-4 p.m. at Woodland Heights Baptist Church at 3712 Central Drive in Bedford.  Drew was the fourth Eagle Scout in Troop 4 in 2004, a record year for the troop.
Other Troop 4 Eagles include:
1999: Sean Flynn and John Chambers.
2000: John Anderson and Trey Teach.
2001: Justin McGary, Matthew Fertitta, and Matt Gindling.
2002: none.
2003: Colby Santa, Eric Bell, and Spencer Cureton.
2004: Daniel B., Drew Sc., Michael L., and Drew St.
Kevin M. and Joe K. were Troop 4's first two Eagles of 2005.

TROOP 4 SCOUT LEADERSHIP -- New SPL Ken C. has named the following scouts to leadership positions for the next six months: ASPL Kevin M., Troop Guide Jeff C., Quartermaster Michael B., Scribe Ryan M., Historian Abi K., and Librarian Joseph S.  The Titans patrol elected Nathan S. as its patrol leader and Tim G. as assistant patrol leader, while the Falcons elected Kyle C. PL and Ryan K. as APL. Also, Joseph K. was elected the Dragons patrol leader and Robert L. was elected APL, while in the new scout Cobra Patrol, Benjamin B. is the patrol leader and Nick C. is the APL.

WELCOME NEW TROOP 4 SCOUTS -- Troop 4's newest scouts include: Benjamin B.; Jared C.; Nicholas C.; Erik G.; Carlton J.; Cole J.; Kevin K.; Ian M.; and Cody M.  Please see the USPS mailed newsletter for e-mail addresses, parents' names, and other information. A complete Troop 4 scout and adult leader roster is included with the March mailed newsletter.

2005 SUMMER CAMP -- The fourth payment of $50.00 per person for summer camp at Camp Alexander in Colorado is due March 21. Scouts should already be involved in physical conditioning since the camp is located at 8,000 ft. altitude. Dates for summer camp are June 26-July 2, 2005. For new scouts and parents, the troop is planning a Longhorn Council summer camp at either Sid Richardson Scout Ranch (SR2) near Bridgeport or Worth Ranch northwest of Mineral Wells in Palo Pinto County. Exact dates will be announced later. Payments for the Florida Sea Base high adventure trip are due March 28. A mandatory meeting of parents of scouts going to summer camp and ALL new scouts will be held April 11 at 7 p.m. at CCF.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD by Joanne Hart -- Total items collected: 731. The items were donated to the CCF Food Bank. Team Stats: Jeffrey C., Michael B. - average of 63 items per boy Cameron T., Eric H., Ryan M. - average of 53.66 items per boy Joe K., Arden S. - average of 50 items per boy Jacob B., Jason H., Joseph S. - average of 43.33 items per boy William B., Ben S., Jon S. - average of 42.33 items per boy Robert L., Gregory G., Joseph L. - average of 29 items per boy Thank you to all the boys who showed up and put out the effort to help others. What a wonderful example of what Boy Scouting is all about. Thank you to all the adults who drove, and those who showed up to offer any help needed. They were: Nancy Logue, Jeff Carter, Marceile Barker, Rob Blume, Ray Santa, Rob Tayne, Linda Mitchell, Mindy Stricklin, Pat Heidelman, Shiryl Thompson, Marianne Lippert, and Joanne Hart

TROOP 4 BOR's -- Troop 4 boards of review are held the first and third Monday meetings. Scouts are required to fill out a BOR request form available from the troop scribe. Also all scouts are requested to bring their scout handbooks to each meeting so rank advancement requirements can be checked off. Scouts should report merit badge completions and rank advancements as soon as possible to Advancement Chairperson John Flynn in person, e-mail-- johnlflynn@yahoo.com  or phone (817) 481-7908. It is the scout's responsibility to make sure Mr. Flynn is aware of their rank advancement.
