SCOUTING FOR FOOD by David Fertitta, project coordinator -- Our Scouting for Food effort was very successful.  We collected 270 food and 25 non-food items for the Colleyville Christian Fellowship food pantry.  The food is being stored in the south room of the meeting building.  We will move the food to the pantry in the main building.  Thanks to all scouts who participated: Kevin M., Ryan M., Jon S., Matthew F., William B., Cameron W., Nick S., Joseph K., Robert L., Jeff C. and Justin B.  Special thanks to Mrs. Logue for getting the extra Target/Walgreen bags and to Mr. Flynn, Mr. Hallstein, Mr. Blume, Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Carter and Mr. Bell for driving the scouts through the mansions of Colleyville.

EAGLE SCOUT UPDATE -- Life Scout Daniel B. will have his Eagle Scout board of review on Thursday Feb. 26 at the Grapevine Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon).  His service project was the rebuilding for the playground at our chartered organization, Colleyville Christian Fellowship. In addition,  Drew Sc. has had his Eagle application paperwork approved by the Longhorn Council and awaits the scheduling of his Eagle Board of Review, probably in March.  The Troop 4 Committee has approved the Eagle service project of Michael L. to rebuild the playground equipment at Sparger Park.  The City of Colleyville's Parks and Recreation Board also approved the project.  His project must still be approved by the Lakeview District Advancement Committee.  Work days will be announced later.

NEW EAGLE PROJECT APPROVAL PROCEDURES EFFECTIVE FEB 26, 2004 by Bruce Elliott, district advancement chairman -- District Eagle project reviews will be held the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.  This might change in the summer months, but we'll give advance notice of any deviation from this schedule. The first reviews under the new process will happen on Thursday Feb 26, and will be held at the same time, and same place as the Eagle Boards.  Scouts should call Mr. Gene Alviz (817) 421-8871 or E-mail: Lakeviewadvancement@hotmail.com  at least 7 days before the review date to get an appointment (space permitting).  Scouts will need to bring two (2) copies of their well organized project workbook complete with all documentation to hand over to the board; they should also have their original available to be signed.  The plans will be evaluated based on whether it addresses all the applicable items in the checklist, and if it is detailed enough for another scout to lead the project.  The review board will consist of 2 scouters well versed in the project checklist, and the district standards.  The scout should plan for about one-half hour for the project approval board.  At the conclusion of the meeting the project will be both approved and signed; or the project concept will be turned down; or the project concept will be acceptable, but specific deficiencies in the write-up will be addressed and scout asked to return when the shortfalls have been corrected.  Scouts should attend the Eagle Project Approval Boards in complete scout uniform.  Additional details about Eagle Scout requirements and service projects can be found at: http://www.longhorncouncil.org/advancement/eagle_policy.htm  Troop 4 Life scouts should also download and print the council's Eagle policy and procedures manual (in pdf format) at: http://www.longhorncouncil.org/forms/eagle_projects/eagle_policy_and_procedures.pdf
Longhorn Council information can be found at: http://www.longhorncouncil.org/default.htm

TROOP MB LIBRARY by Librarian Michael B. -- "Attention Troop 4 scouts and parent, help expand our library!  Please consider donating your used merit badge books to the Troop 4 Library. We are in need of expanding our library with new books. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Please bring in donations to Monday night meetings.  Because of your donations our Library will then offer merit badge books for check out.  Just in time for the upcoming merit badge collage. Please give books to Michael B., librarian.  "Thank you for your help please contact me at the troop meetings if you have any questions or comments."

SCOUT HANDBOOKS -- Each scout should bring their scout handbook to every troop meeting and activity including camp outs so advancement requirements can be signed off as they are earned or show proficiency, not days or weeks later.  Requirements are usually signed off by the scoutmaster or an assistant scoutmaster.

PLEASE UPDATE E-MAIL ADDRESSES -- Several Troop 4 families are apparently periodically changing their e-mail addresses as many of those addresses you supplied the editor and troop with are bouncing.  If you wish to receive the e-mail version of the Troop 4 newsletter (usually a couple days before the USPS delivers the paper version) please supply the troop with your correct and updated e-mail address. Also e-mails to some families are bouncing because of "over quota" messages."

DISTRICT CAMPOREE -- April 16-18 is the Lakeview District Camporee.  Troop 4 must turn in registrations by the April 1 Roundtable.
