Everyone,
This is from Mr. Barker about the Friends of Scouting presentation that we will
be having at the Court of Honor:
Dear Parents,
This Monday, February 8th at our Court of Honor we will have a guest speaker from the Lakeview District, John Kresky, who will give a very brief presentation on the 2010 Friends of Scouting campaign. To appreciate the importance of this campaign it helps to understand how our contributions to the Friends of Scouting campaign benefits our boys and supports the Longhorn Council.
Our combined contributions to the Friends of Scouting Program make up 41% of the
Longhorn Council’s annual operating revenue and enable the Council to provide the following services:
- Support and funding for area Camporees and Cub Scout Day Camps
- Replace Rifles, BB guns, and Archery Equipment within the Council and Lakeview District
- Professional staff and Service Providers
- Adult and Youth Training including 1,000 Adult Leaders trained per year
- Eagle and Advancement registrar assistance
Providing insurance for units and leaders
- Council Service Center and Scout shop in Hurst
Operation of the Longhorn Council Camps
- Registration services and flyers for recruiting new scouts each year
- Recognition of volunteers
It takes about $203 per year for the Council to support each boy in the Scouting program. Funding to cover these costs comes from one main source, donations received through the annual FOS campaign.
Therefore, donations received through the FOS campaign are critical to the success of the Scouting program and the families of Troop 4 have consistently supported the FOS program year after year.
100-100
As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting our goal of 100% participation in the 2010 FOS campaign.
Please consider the long term value your son is getting from Scouting. Outside of religious organizations there are very few programs offered today that help prepare young boys to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetime. Scouting helps our young boys build strong moral character, develop a commitment to their community and country, and become physically fit.
A contribution in any amount will be greatly appreciated. Your company may even have a “matching” program that will contribute a dollar for every dollar that you contribute.
See you Monday night. Please remember to bring your checkbooks!
THANKS! |
