May 18, 2009

Everyone,

Remember that the payment for summer camp transportation is due next week, however, we are off due to Memorial Day. Please turn in the payment tonight or send to Jeff Booth using the address provided in the last email message.

Mrs. Barker provided the follow information for summer camp:

SUMMER CAMP Reminder!

Parent Meeting during June 1st Troop Meeting, all parents with scout attending summer camp must attend (all others welcome)

Make sure you have at least four Troop 4 t-shirts, place orders as soon as possible.

All Parents attending Summer Camp or any Campouts must take the Youth Protection Training (YPT), go to www.myscouting.org, make sure and provide a copy of your Certificate of Completion to the Troop (bring to a meeting or email to gilbert.jordan AT troop4grapevine.com)

All summer camp Medical Forms (new forms) are due by June 1st, also provide the Medical Power of Attorney (see troop website-forms) and attach a copy of your current Insurance Card—this is only in case of Emergency.

Packing: See website for the locker needed for each scout and parent going to summer camp (the picture attached shows the most efficient loading into the troop trailer when everyone has the same trunk). Also summer camp is one of the only times each person needs a cot (any style available at a sporting goods store). Try to pack all items in your trunk, except your cot and camp chair. Use the summer camp checklist. Label everything (duct tape works well on the black trunks then write your name on the tape).

Locks are recommended, but only combination style (make sure and keep a copy of the combination at home & write-down on a piece of paper for the scoutmaster, in case your scout forgets during his excitement at camp).

Send all medicine to be dispensed during camp in original containers only with your scouts name (keep in mind if your scout takes medications during the school year, it is encouraged to continue during summer camp, the Merit Badge classes are somewhat like school and we want to provide your scout the utmost opportunity for completion).

ALL Trunks (adults & scouts) along with your cot & camp chair should be packed and brought to the June 15th Troop Meeting, the trailer will be leaving ahead of the Bus departure on Saturday (June 20th)

Have your scout bring their pillow and a small day pack for the bus ride, along with a change of clothes/personal toiletries and hand-held electronics for the bus ride. Place your scout’s name on the electronics, since these well be placed in a lockbox during the week of camp, make sure they understand to turn-in their electronics prior to departure from the bus and to take all their items off the bus. The Bus will be leaving during our week at camp and another bus coming back for us (electronics will be handed out again on the trip home). NO CELL PHONES needed at all.

June 1st meeting we will have a trunk for demonstration purposes and have a Question and Answer session.

SIGN-UP for the Merit Badges your scout wants to work on at camp-see Troop website, take care with the times the class is offered. Purchase the Merit Badge books or check them out from the Troop Library, place in a day pack and encourage your scout to work on items ahead of time (for example the Reptile/Amphibian you must care for a turtle, lizard, frog, etc for 30 days—do this BEFORE summer camp). Scout Motto: BE PREPARED, they should have writing items such as pens/pencils and paper for the week.

Departure: The bus will be pulling out at 8:00 PM sharp on Saturday, June 20th. The Troop would like to have a cookout prior to departure (hamburgers/hot dogs, etc) for each person going on the trip and their families. But we need parents who are not attending summer camp to help prepare and clean-up. Hoping to have volunteers arrive 5:30 PM, have dinner at 6:30 PM or so and then we can fellowship prior to departure.

If you are able to help with the following, please email Mr./Mrs. Barker at jobarker AT netzero.net :

1. Cooking (Mr. Barker has the grill, but needs help)
2. Purchasing chips & condiments for 120 (troop will reimburse)
3. Purchasing meat & bread for 120 (troop will reimburse)
4. Purchasing paper goods & trash bags (troop will reimburse)
5. Purchasing dessert/cookies for 120 (troop will reimburse)
6. Each family can provide their own drinks & chairs (we will eating outdoors)
7. Need setup crew
8. Need clean-up crew
9. Anything you guys can think of that is missed on the list

Return: Saturday, June 27th approximately 8:00 PM (be prepared for pick-up anytime from 6:00 - 10:00 PM and a call once we get closer to the church, it is hard to estimate travel time and we plan to only stop for one big meal, maybe CiCi’s buffet—so your scouts maybe hungry upon arrival). The Troop will have some snacks on the bus, do not have the scouts pack any at all, but we must estimate the consumption going out and coming back and with teenage boys who knows. It is a good idea to have the scouts pack their water bottle in their day pack for the bus, with water from home.

Marceile Barker

THANKS!
