Everyone,
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there! I hope you have been having a great day.
The church needs the Bessant House tomorrow and Tuesday this week. So we will be meeting in the diner
part of the Family Center. If you are at the Bessant House and looking back West towards the church
buildings, the Family Center is the building on the left. We will enter through the main doors. Please
tell your scout(s) that there will be NO playing in or on the tree house; this applies to adults as
well. This weeks committee meeting, which is Tuesday at 7:00 PM, will also meet in the Family Center. All
parents are welcome.
Day 2 of the Family Life merit badge is tomorrow during the meeting. All scouts working on the merit badge
need to bring their workbooks filled out for all the requirements that are complete. Also, they will need
their blue card to get completed requirements signed off by Mrs. Barker.
Our camping coordinator has been unsuccessful in securing a camp for the May 15-17 campout. All of the
camps in our council as well as Circle 10 (Dallas and surrounding areas) are either closed or booked up. We
have asked the church if we could meet in the fields behind the Family Center and the Worship Center for
a daytime only rank advancement event. If the church approves, we will probably set up various stations
for things like knots and lashings, first aid, axe and knife skills, etc. The scouts can go from station to
station learning skills and getting requirements signed off. The time and cost will vary depending on
several factors. Most importantly, if there are any scouts that had planned on buying food and supervising
cooking at the planned campout, they need to see me or Mr. Jordan tomorrow night so we can plan the day. If
nobody needs this requirement for the rank of First Class, the day will be shorter and we will have all
of the participants bring their own lunch. We will need several adults and scoutmasters present to
teach and sign off on the scout skills. Many rank requirements could be completed on this day.
The deposit for the NASA trip is a week from tomorrow. The deposit amounts ($55/scout and $25/adult) are
needed to secure you spot on the trip.
