Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great Spring Break and made it home safely.

This weeks meeting is a PLC, Patrol Leaders Council. For those that aren't sure, the PLC is a once a month meeting for the patrol leaders and other boys in a troop leadership position (see list in the Star Rank requirements, requirement 5) to meet and plan the troop activities. All scouts with a leadership position are required to attend, but other scouts that are interested are welcome to join. There are a few adults on hand to make calendar update notes and to make sure the suggestions are feasible. So anyone is welcome to attend. The dress for the PLC meetings is normal street close; no Scout uniform is needed.

The next normal troop meeting will be on Monday, April 6, 2009.

The Leadership Training Campout (see the list in the reference in the first paragraph) has been postponed due to the original scheduling on Easter Weekend. This should be updated after the PLC.

This month is the annual swim check at the GCISD swim center. I will call and make an appointment for us to show up. When you see a time listed on the calendar, you will know the event is confirmed. The swim test is required annually so that the boys can participate in any water activities, including summer camp and canoe races. This is for both scouts and adults that want to participate in these activities. This will be the only time we do the swim check during the year. To be considered a full swimmer in Boy Scouts, the participant needs to swim 75 yards using a strong stroke and 25 yards using a resting back stroke along with a short resting float at the end. For those working on the ranks of Second Class and First Class, there will be an opportunity to stay and get the water requirements completed.

The District Camporee will be held April 17-19, 2009. This is where the patrols compete with other patrols in the district for various activities. The activities vary by the amount of time the boys have been in Boy Scouts. It is very fun and most of the events are all new this year. Please sign up soon so that we can get an accurate count and reserve our campsite. This year, we will be at Buchannon Springs inside of Sid Richardson. This is a much shorter drive and everything should be closer together.

The Spring District Canoe Race is scheduled as a day trip on Saturday, April 25, 2009. The departure and arrival times should be updated soon. Normally there isn't much racing going on, but a nice float down stream in the Brazos river.

One last thing. The Order of the Arrow chapter is in need of some tin cans for the call-out ceremony after the campfire during the Camporee. We need about 80 more tin cans. Soup cans are the perfect size, but we can also use veggie cans that are a little bit bigger, but not the family size. If you have any in the next few weeks, please rinse them out and bring them to me at a troop meeting.
