March 2, 2009

Everyone,

It is time for a few announcements:

Please be aware of the time change for tonight's meeting. We will begin at 6:30 PM instead of 7:00 PM. Tonight is the last official night of merit badge college. Please come prepared to finish up merit badges. I believe most of the counselors are planning to attend tonight. I know that Mr. Anderson will not be able to make it due to a previous commitment. There will not be any set class times, just locate your counselor and work with them on getting requirements signed off. We will also be having senior patrol leader candidate speeches and boards of review will be available. Remember for Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class ranks, scouts need to be in full uniform (shirt, shorts, neckerchief), have their book, print off the Scoutmaster conference/Board of Review form and have their Scoutmaster conference. Boards for Star and Life need the same things, but they also need an advancement report from the Advancement Chair, Mr. Barker. This is the last night to earn awards and have them presented at next week's troop court of honor.

Speaking of the troop court of honor next week, today is the last day to sign up. I will be turning off the signup sheet in the morning. Please bring the payment tonight or to the door of the restaurant next week.

If you are planning on attending summer camp, I need you to sign up this week. The April deadline is on the calendar so that new scouts bridging over have time to sign up. We expect those that are already in the troop to sign up before the first down payment was due. We have to reserve space at the camp or we could end up in multiple camp sites, or not have any more room for additional scouts. We also need several more adults to take some vacation time to drive and chaperone at camp. If you have never been to camp, or haven't been in several years, it is time to step up and help the boys out.

The City of Grapevine is having the Great American Clean-up on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 8:00 - 11:00 AM. There isn't time to coordinate this as a troop, but I have printed out some of the flyers that can be picked up at tonight's meeting. If any one needs service hours this is a great way to get some.

There is some adult training classes coming up on Saturday, March 14, 2009 from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM in Weatherford. These classes cover several troop positions like committee chairperson, committee member, chartered organizational representative, Scoutmaster, assistant scoutmaster, etc. I will have flyers for this at tonight's meeting. All of the leaders in the troop have been in their position for several years. It is time to start transitioning to new faces. Currently we need a new committee chairperson and a camping coordinator. The committee chairperson runs the once-a-month troop committee meeting and signs new adult applications. The camping coordinator fills out the travel permit for each campout and makes camp reservations. Neither of these positions if very time consuming. There will be other training for these and other positions in the future a little closer and we have hands-on training at the troop to get you started. It will be a gentle transition.

THANKS!
