January 23, 2009

Everyone,

I finally have the sign up page for the troop merit badge college on the web site. You can get to it from both the January 26 and February 2 days. Sorry for the delay, it took a while to get the voting in and to track down counselors. Scouts can choose one merit badge in session 1 (6:30 - 7:30 PM) and one merit badge from session 2 (7:30 - 8:30 PM0. Please note the meeting time change on merit badge college dates. If you don't like the selections for a particular session, please feel free to sign up for an open session slot to finish a merit badge you had already started. You will need to coordinate meeting with the counselor on your own. If you would rather work on rank advancement requirements during one or both of the sessions, please sign up for that instead of a merit badge and we will track down a scoutmaster to work with you. At a minimum, you should acquire a merit badge book from the library or scout shop, start reading it and have a workbook printed out before class. You will also need a pen to write with. Please come prepared. The scout shop in Hurst is back up now. The library is a little short on current books, but you are welcome to look if you would like. Since Citizenship in the Community is mostly work away from class, this will just be an informal meeting with the counselor. He will provide guidance and get you started, but there will not be any formal instruction.

Counselors: Please send me any prerequisites that need to be completed before class and I will get them posted as soon as I can.

Parents: We need parents to sign up to help with the classes for 2-deep leadership requirements, paperwork and keeping the boys focused. If you have ever wondered how easy it is to be a merit badge counselor, please sign up and find out for yourself.

In other news:

The date and location for the Rifle/Shotgun campout has changed due to camp scheduling. If you have already signed up and this creates a conflict for you, please go to the sign up page and asked to be removed from the event.

There is now a sign up sheet to attend A. Kulshreshtha's Eagle Court of Honor. Please see February 21 for details.

We will be doing Scouting for Food on February 8 (bag drop off) and February 14 (pickup). The sign up sheet will be posted on the calendar soon.

And finally, we need a parent who is going to summer camp to be the camp coordinator. This isn't a hard job, but needs to be done. The coordinator will be the interface to the camp to make sure we keep our campsite and to make sure we make our deposit on time.

THANKS!
