Everyone,

Tonight is the Order of the Arrow election at the troop meeting. If you are new to the troop or scouting, the Order of the Arrow is the national honor society for the Boy Scouts of America. You have probably seen them performing ceremonies, like the Webelos cross-over ceremonies. To be eligible, the scouts need to be at least the rank of First Class and have had 15 nights of camping, including a long term camp, like summer camp, withing the last two years. Eligible members are elected based on a vote by the scouts in the troop. We have to have 26+ scouts present to have a valid election tonight, so please try to be there.

The court of honor signup sheet is on the web site on the March 9th date. This court of honor will be off-site this time. There will be a map posted on the calendar when we verify the new location on Hwy 26. The cost will be $9 per person for those age 6 and up and $4 for those age 5 and under. Please sign up and pay by February 16 so that final arrangements can be made. If you are not eating but are still planning on attending, please signup online and indicate no tickets are needed.

Many scouts voted to go to the Gorham Scout Ranch (formerly Camp Frank Rand) this summer. So far we have had 5 scouts sign up. The first deposit of $125 per scout and adult for summer camp is due on February 9th. We have our first payment due to the camp that week. We need an accurate count so the camp knows the size of the camp site that we need.

For those that signed up to go to Philmont in 2010, including those on the waiting list, the $50 deposit per person is due by next Monday in order to hold your slot.

We are still trying to finalize the classes for merit badge college coming up next Monday, January 26. I am planning to have the sign up sheet online in a couple of days. Please be watching for another email message from me. I will list the merit badges that we will offer and any preparation the counselor recommends. We will also be looking for parent volunteers to assist in each class. This will keep our two-deep leadership requirements and give the counselors help with administration and keeping the boys focused.
