Everyone,
Troop 4 has been awarded a 12 day trek that will start on July 13, 2010. With travel
days the trip will last from July 11 through July 25, 2010.
The cost will be $620.00 + all travel cost per person.
The crew size for the Philmont trek is 12. (Minimum 2 Adults Maximum 4 Adults)
Due to the number of those that will be eligible from an age standpoint, it is possible
that there will be a waiting list of those that want to go. Scouts must be age 14 by
September 1, 2010 to be eligible.
If there is a waiting list for this event the list will be in order of when the
signup on-line took place.
Beyond the age and medical requirements established by Philmont, the adult
leadership of Troop 4 will also determine if a Scout/Adult is physically and
mentally fit to go on such a trek.
In preparation for this event, there will be certain outings that the troop will
have to help with understanding the physical demands and access each participant’s
ability to be a positive addition to the crew that will eventually go to
Philmont. All of those that are signed up and on the waiting list will
be expected to be a part of these types of activities if they want to be
considered for the final crew roster going on the Trek.
It is possible that someone may sign up, participate in many activities of the
troop for preparation, and then a determination be made that it would not be
in the best interest of the crew for that individual to go. This will leave
an open spot such that if there is a waiting list the next person in line
will be considered, provided that they have been actively involved in
preparation.
As of yet, we have not made a payment schedule. There will be a deposit of
$50.00 required to be made by all, whether you are on the primary list or
the waiting list. If this deposit is not in to the Troop 4 four weeks after you
sign up on line, then your name will be removed and you will have to re-sign
up online which could change your position on the waiting list (if there is one).
The final crew will be set sometime early 2010 (Somewhere around January – March).
This means that to be accepted on the final crew list, you will have had to have
been active prior to that time and determined that you are physically and
mentally ready to go and will be a positive addition to the crew without
reservation. At the time the final crew is set, all deposits and other
payments made by those that will not be going will be refunded.
In the event that after the final crew is set and someone has to drop out, then
only those on the waiting list that have continued to be active in the preparation
will be considered. I do want to emphasize 'considered' as the adult leadership
will have to determine if adding an individual will be a positive addition to
the crew.
