November 5, 2008

Everyone,

There is lots of things going on the next two weeks:

The trailer cleanup is this Saturday, November 8, 2008, from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Please come by and help get the trailer ready for the Council Camporee. Pizza will be provided after the event for those that come and help.

Due to popcorn pickup from the council, the troop popcorn pickup has been moved to Sunday, November 9, 2008, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. You will find a map to the Glen's residence on the web site. Be sure to thank Mr. Glen for all his hard work getting the orders together. It is very much appreciated.

N. Smith's Eagle Court of Honor will be help on Sunday, November 9, 2008, at 6:30 PM at the National Scout Museum in Irving. There is a link to the map on the web site. Please RSVP to Mr. Smith at the number provided in the email so they will be able to plan for seating and refreshments. This counts as a non-troop/patrol meeting for Second and First class ranks. You can also enjoy the museum for free after the ceremony.

The Council Camporee is November 14-16, 2008. Currently we need more adults signed up for supervision, especially on Saturday. There is no charge for adults for this event. Please sign up by tomorrow to avoid the $5 late fee that the council will charge us.

J. Carter's Eagle Court of Honor will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2008. There is limited seating, so please RSVP early. There is an online signup sheet to RSVP and a map on the troop calendar. Dinner will be provided after the ceremony for those that wish to stay. This also counts as a non-troop/patrol meeting for Second and First class ranks.

And finally, we are still collecting aluminum cans for recycling as a fund raiser. Mrs. Barker found this information to share with you:

The Importance of Aluminum Recycling:
Aluminum is the most plentiful metal on the planet. To keep it that way we need to exhibit a consorted effort to recycle the aluminum already in use and production. Aluminum can recycling provides many benefits environmentally and economically. By recycling your empty soda and drink cans you save enough energy to light a 100-Watt bulb for up to 4 hours or run a television for 3 hours. Economically, recycling aluminum saves 95% of the energy needed to produce new aluminum. Environmentally, recycling aluminum cans produces 95% less air pollution and 97% less water pollution than new aluminum can production. Even better yet, the cans can be recycled multiple times with the same positive results. It only takes a scant 60 days to get a recycled can back on the shelf. Saving aluminum cans to be recycled can prove to be an ambitious feat. By crushing them with a can crusher you not only save space and time you do the earth a much needed environmental favor. Do your part to crush and recycle! With a small amount of time and effort you can largely impact the environment in a positive way!

THANKS!
