Everyone,
I apologize for sending out another note, just one day after the last one, but this information
just came in.
The Aviation merit badge will again be offered at the Alliance airport. I have
helped with this merit badge for the past two years and I can tell you that the scouts are
treated very well. This merit badge is a two weekend event; one day each weekend. The
scouts must attend both days to complete the merit badge. The first day is Saturday, September
27, 2008, from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. This is the indoor/classroom part. All but one requirement
will be complete at the end of the day. The second day will be on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at
4:00 PM. This is at the end of the
Alliance Air Show, but you can spend the entire day at the show.
The actual merit badges will be handed out
at that time. In the past, we were able to meet the Thunderbirds when the patches were presented.
The scouts will be given tickets to the air show and a parking pass for free. There is also no cost
for the first day. Scouts will need to bring a sack lunch, but free drinks are provided and maybe
event some cookies. On this day the scouts will get to pre-flight an airplane, learn about the
fundamentals of flight, interview a professional or military pilot, and possibly be able to visit
the control tower if they have enough staff working. Only Scouts and parents are allowed on the
first day, no siblings. This class is limited to 30 Scouts only, which is why I wanted to provide you
the information as soon as I could. If you are interested in signing up, please see me for a flyer or
send me a quick email and I will provide you the contacts name.
The National Scout Museum in Irving is also offering some merit badge classes this fall. You will find
them listed on the calendar.
If you find one on the list that your Scout would like to take, please call (972) 580-2466 and they can
get him registered. The cost for each class is $15.

This fun activity will be held at Main Event in Grapevine. The cost for each participant, including
adults that play, is $15. However, there are only 4 adults slots. If you really want to play, please put that in the
comments when you register.
