Troop 4 Grapevine, Texas   Troop 4 gratefully acknowledges the contributions of its Adult Leaders who make our activities possible.

May 12, 2008

Everyone,

Dick Cureton asked me to send this out:

There are a number of Religious Emblems Programs available to members of the Boy Scouts of America for scouts and adult leaders. These programs are created by various religious groups to encourage youth to grow stronger in their faith. The religious groups (not the Boy Scouts of America) have created the religious emblems programs themselves.

BSA approves of these programs and allows the recognition to be worn on the scout uniform, but each religious organization develops and administers its own program. There are religious emblem programs for thirty five religious groups (e.g., Baptist, LDS, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist).

The annual programs for Roman Catholic scouts will begin this month and there are two religious emblems that can be earned through these programs - the Ad Altare Dei award and the Pope Pius XII award. Steve Zerbe is the counselor for these emblems and the information he recently forwarded for Roman Catholic scouts is as follows:

Ad Altare Dei Award:
Boy Scouts who are interested in learning more about the 7 sacraments and how our faith can be expressed in our daily life, contact Steve Zerbe, Religious Emblems Counselor at (817) 251-1162 or email zpatton AT aol.com . The program is for Scouts who will be at least 13 by year end. Bishop Vann bestows a medal to the successful participants at a special ceremony in the spring. For more information go to http://www.bsaccs.org.

Pope Pius XII Award:
Boy Scouts who are interested in developing a Christian way of life within our faith community and reflecting upon their baptismal call and what future calls from God may be received, contact Steve Zerbe, Religious Emblems Counselor at (817) 251-1162 or email zpatton AT aol.com . The program is for Scouts who will be at least 15 by year end. Bishop Vann bestows a medal to the successful participants at a special ceremony in the Spring. For more information go to http://www.bsaccs.org.

If you would like additional information of either of these two programs or Religious Emblem Programs in general, contact Dick Cureton (curetontexas AT tx.rr.com).

Also, there is a parents meeting tonight about what your scout needs to bring and what he doesn't need to bring to summer camp. If this is your scout's first summer camp, or if you would like a refresher, you should be there.

THANKS!
