Twin Arrows Youth Leadership Training
The Boy Scouts of America has developed an updated youth leadership
training program called New Youth leadership Training. The Longhorn
Council calls this program Twin Arrows. The purpose of Twin Arrows NYLT
is to assist in training your boy leaders. The Twin Arrows Troop works
as an ideal troop using the patrol method and rotating leadership
responsibility.
Twin Arrows is not designed to teach basic Scout skills, which
participants should already have. It strives to develop in a Scout the
leadership techniques to "keep the patrol together and get the job done
right".
To attend, a Scout is required to have experience
in camping, cooking, and first aid skills, and must have his First Class
rank by December 1, 2005 and be 13 years old by December 1, 2005. The
fee for the course will be $125.00 per Scout. The fee includes
meals, equipment use, training materials, Twin Arrows beads, TA-NYLT
patch and certificate that each Scout will receive upon successful
completion of the entire course. The Troop Committee has decided that
participants will be reimbursed for the cost of the course upon
successful completion of the course including the Leadership Growth
Actions that each participant agrees to work on with in the troop after
the course.
The course will begin with check-in at 12:00 Noon on Monday, December
26th at Camp Tahuaya for course TA-159. All Scouts should be checked in
no later than 12:30 p.m. The course will be
completed after the closing ceremony scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and
finish at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 31st.
The participant MUST be able to attend the
entire course.
Prior to the course date there will be an
Orientation Meeting for the Scouts selected to attend the
courses. The meeting will be on Tuesday, December
6, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at TBD. It is very important that the Scout
attend this meeting. Important information will be given: purpose of the
training, what to bring, and other details will be discussed. Unit
leaders and parents are also invited to attend.
Interested scouts must contact Scoutmaster Jeff Carter so the letter of
recommendation can be submitted to the Council.
If you are interested in the December course,
please contact the Scoutmaster, Jeff Carter, by email immediately as the
time is short and registration may be filling up.
Additional courses are in the Spring at Tahuaya and in July at Sid
Richardson.
